Memorize and Meditate (M&M) - Change your thoughts

Memorizing and meditating on God's word is an effective tool to help us take our thoughts captive and focus on what is right and pure and good.  Contrary to current thought we aren't very effective at multitasking.  Our brains can really only focus on one thing at a time.  If we focus our attention on God's word then we can't focus on impure thoughts at the same time.  Trying not to think about something has proven counterproductive and demonstrated by research as we simply think more about what we don't want to think about.   Psalm 119:11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

Memorizing and meditating on verses such as:

Psalm 101:2-3, I will walk within my house in the integrity of my heart.  I will set no worthless thing before my eyes;

Psalm 51:10-12

Create in me a clean heart, O God,
    and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from your presence,
    and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
    and uphold me with a willing spirit.

Philippians 4:8
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Job 31:1 (MSG)
I made a solemn pact with myself
never to undress a girl with my eyes.
